On Uncertainty tone in the mind and the difference with the Security tone
The uncertainty isn’t about an explanation. This is the dilemma always for the 2. Somebody says to the 2, “This is it.” And the 2 says, “I don’t think so.” And the other one says, “Well, why not?” There is no way they can really answer that, they can’t, there is just this deep, deep uncertainty. And for them always everything about what it is to be a 2 is that you are constantly trying to, remember my description in the way in which the 1, and the 2 operates is that the 1 sets the foundation the 2 is always looking for new things, when it gets to those new things it passes it back to the 1, so it can be free of all of that.
Think about the nature of uncertainty. The way the uncertainty works is that the certain is put away. The 2 takes all those certain things and puts them away so this is a mind that isn’t going to think about what is certain, this is a mind that is going to be deeply influenced to think about things where there is no certainty whatsoever. Certainty is a 1 thing, if the immune system can’t be certain, we are really in trouble.
It says, “No, no, everything is okay, everything is fine.” It’s the 2 that has to carry all of that uncertainty so when you bring that to the mental level, these are beings that are not easy believers. And not just in the abstract sense of believing, but in the overwhelming sense of accepting anything at face value. There is always an assumption that there is something behind the veil, there is something missing, something that is not quite there, the 2 can be very mystical…
It is something really amazing to understand again to go back to the nature of this quality at the mental level, that ultimately it carries with it the dichotomy of dread and hopefulness. It knows nothing is compete, it knows that everything is changing, it knows that everything is in flux. It is the essence of it. So it gives us a gift to be able to explore in a very different way mentally than the 1. With the 1 we get down again to the nitty gritty, basic foundation stuff, basic grabbing what you need to grab in order to defend yourself, defend your mind, and your life, whatever is required. But the 2 this uncertainty is something else…
The way their intellectuality will operate, because of course these themes, though they are expressed differently in keynotes for either side have obvious relationships to each other, and this is a mind that is going to be a sampler, it is going to sample things it is never going to take anything at face value. There is going to be this sampling underneath that is going to influence the way in which this mental being is going to be motivated to communicate their concept, and it’s a mechanism.
