What’s the difference between a hanging or dormant gate?
"There are hanging gates (which are gates in defined centres) and dormant gates (which are gates in undefined centres). When a hanging gate meets its opposite partner, thru a transit or in another person, that channel comes 'alive' and operates in ways that can be felt and seen. Then it goes away again. So these are temporary channel potentials.
With dormant gates it's a bit different, as they a) filter what you can witness in that centre when it gets defined eg dormant gate 55 will experience emotions in terms of the Spirit and abundance/emptiness. b) when they connect with the opposing gate, both undefined centres also become defined temporarily. This gives a whole new level of experience, what it feels like to have centres operating through that channel that are not in your natal chart.
What is really interesting in a deep study of HD, is to look at the gates that oppose your own hanging and dormant gates, and see how much you identify with those descriptions! So we can become quite strongly conditioned to try to act out the opposing gate to our hanging/dormant gates.
You can then take this even deeper by considering the lines of the gates, and the lines of the opposing gates, in harmony together, in resonance with your Profile, and you get to really home in on the nuances of your conditioning potentials. What is it that you keep seeking to be, or keep thinking you need to acquire in another person?”
